Slow down this is not a race /
I wanna make the world stop and wait /
Put your phone down, try to concentrate /
I wanna give the world a little break.
Everybody slow down, this is not a race /
I wanna make the world stop and wait /
I’ve guess I’ve got a little too much on my plate /
Like fat kids who gobble cake /
Everything’s a distraction, lights, camera, action /
Now it’s getting hard to concentrate /
Flicking through tweets watching endless repeats /
With Ross telling Rachel they were on a break /
We move full speed at a constant pace /
And shift between screens till it’s gotten late /
So obsessed with timelines and digital lifetimes /
We miss the main event, what a waste.
Cps there’s too much to take in and process /
I think it’s deflating my progress /
Cos even as I sat down and wrote this /
Ummmm, I lost focus.
Now the song isn’t a hit unless the video’s viral /
So I stopped spinning vinyl and signed up to Tidal /
I had a whole list of idols, now they’re idle /
With each getting lost as technology spiralled /
I stopped tagging walls and I started tagging photos /
Keeping up my status seemed to put me in a chokehold /
Heartless and stone cold, getting nothing from it /
Saw my ego plummet and depression hit the summit /
I was scared of missing out or that my status didn’t count /
Or what you had was better and I couldn’t live without /
But that’s the way the world works, we all race to keep up /
Told that we’re too slow and missing all the secrets /
Sick of seeing highlights and wishing it was my life /
Feeling like I’m too old, or too young, or too fat /
Or too thin, or too this, or too that to move on /
Scared of being judged if I posted a new song /
So I went the other way and turned reclusive /
Now my bird’s the only one to hear exclusives /
Cos this world makes us constantly compete /
And all I wanna do is put words to a beat.
We used to use it for photos /
Now it’s just a platform for promos /
Selfies in the perfect light, twenty snaps to get it right /
With just that one shot getting shown though /
Like life’s all rainbows and sunbeams /
We’ve lost touch via touch screens /
Miss the way we connect like a it’s letters in a text /
Encrypting the code in my bloodstream /
Hoping for a like or a mention /
Frustrated and can’t hold attention /
But how apt, I can download an app /
That helps relieves any stress and any tension.
